Welcome to the Yoga Church Sunday Sermons

Spiritual Practices for Imbolc

It’s the beginning of February. Which, for those of us living in the northern hemisphere, means we’ve reached the middle of winter.

And this means: SPRING IS COMING!!

In the Celtic Wheel of the Year we call this moment Imbolc and celebrate the earth’s awakening. The sun is returning and the days are growing longer. If you listen closely you might hear a bit more birdsong. And if you look for them, you might discover tiny buds on the bushes and trees.

This is a potent time, full of creative energy.

Here at Imbolc the unconscious is emerging from the time of incubation and rest, revitalized, potent and fertile. Imbolc is the time for initiation and healing, for reclaiming what has been forgotten. It is a time for invocation of the life force and working with the dynamics of its potency.

We are trying in our own way to live the dreams and visions of a new age, but we are still bound by our old conditioning and life patterns. We each carry the seeds of a new vision, of a new way of being. Each time these visions re-emerge after the incubation period of winter, they are stronger and we are surer.

Now is the time to prepare inwardly for the changes that will come. Plant your ideas and leave them to germinate. Bring your visions and inner understandings out through poetry, song and art.

-Glennie Kindred

“Bring your visions and inner understandings out through poetry, song and art.”

There are 45 days between Imbolc and the Spring Equinox. Let’s infuse them with creativity…

Who’s up for a Yoga Church Creativity Challenge?

Here’s the invitation: Choose something you love to do, but don’t often make time for. What fills your creative heart with joy? What lights you up?

  • Cooking
  • Sewing
  • Drawing
  • Playing an instrument
  • Painting
  • Singing
  • Dancing
  • Photography
  • Creative Writing
  • Haiku
  • What else?

This challenge isn’t about making perfect art. It’s about expressing the creativity inherent in being human.

Choose one creative thing and plan to play with it a little bit (even just 5 minutes) every day (or most days) as we await the arrival of spring.

I’ve made a little calendar for us so we can check off the days (who doesn’t love filling in a check box??).

Click here to download your Creativity Challenge Calendar!!

And if you want to see my experiments (with art journal pages and creative writing) you can follow me on instagram.

If you join me in this challenge, please share what you’re up to!!

Thank you for this Summer! I love this idea and will commit to DANCING! Every day for 45 days. Dancing brings so much joy to my soul AND double win, its so beautiful to witness the innate quality of dance come out in my son, Orion. He was never taught to dance and yet, his body dances! He will be my muse, as he is for most things as of late! I am excited to treat myself to this little challenge that could bring about a wonderful quality to my daily and full life.
    Much love, Minta
